Our Core Identity
Lutheran Theological Seminary (LTS) is rooted in the theological vision of Martin Luther, proclaiming that God’s love—revealed through Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ—is abundant and fulfilling for all. Embracing this liberating gospel, we are called and sent to share this gift with the world. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we prepare courageous, compassionate leaders who serve our church, respond to the world’s deep needs, engage in ecumenical collaboration, and draw from the richness of diverse wisdom and traditions.
Our Mission
Lutheran Theological Seminary, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, equips people for Christ-centred leadership and witness to participate in God’s mission in the world.
Our Vision
We envision a dynamic community of lifelong learners whose exploration of faith sparks transformation—first within themselves, then flowing outward to empower their communities to embody the hands and face of Christ in the world.
Values
These values shape the community that LTS creates and supports:
- Faithfulness
- Responding to the gift of faith, we equip public leaders to think and act as a reflection of God’s loving presence.
- Participation
- With the whole church, we participate in God’s ongoing mission to love and bless the world.
- Reconciliation
- Attentive to God’s call to love our neighbour, we affirm each person as gift and strive to embody diversity.
- Transformation
- Grounded in the covenant of baptism, we pursue excellence in scholarship through critical reflection, faithful inquiry, and lifelong learning to prepare leaders for a changing church and society.
- Proclamation
- Faithful to biblical witness and to Lutheran confessional heritage, we challenge ourselves and others to courageously share the promise of God’s unconditional grace.
