On behalf of LTS, President William Harrison is pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Kyle Schiefelbein-Guerrero, Grace Professor of Leadership, has been granted tenure, to take effect on July 1, 2024. Grant of tenure means that a faculty member now has permanent status with the school. With this step, LTS recognizes the extensive teaching and practical experience that Dr. Schiefelbein-Guerrero brings to our school, along with the substantial contribution that he has made in his time with us. We look forward to building a future together, as we imagine leadership in tomorrow's church and prepare our students to serve.
“I am very honoured by this public affirmation of my work in both the academy and the church,” says Dr. KSG, “and I thank the tenure committee, President Harrison, and the Board of Governors for their continual support. This recognition energizes my commitment to providing a strong Lutheran voice in the ecumenical context of western Canada and beyond.
Dr. Gordon Jensen, Emeritus William Hordern Professor of Theology at LTS, has just released his second book in the Lutheran Quarterly Book Series.
In Experiencing Gospel: The History and Creativity of Martin Luther's 1534 Bible Project, Dr. Jensen explores the history of the first German bibles, and then explores how Luther translated the text in a way that deliberately emphasized the gospel.
The book is published by Fortress Press. You can also see a video of Dr. Jensen being interviewed about the book on the Lutheran Quarterly website:
The book can be purchased from Fortress Press: (https://www.fortresspress.com/store/product/9781506482941/Experiencing-Gospel) or through Amazon.ca (via a 'Gordon A. Jensen' search).
‘A Year of Intention’—a series of four online events celebrating LTS’s commitment to being a Reconciling in Christ school—continues in early February with a panel discussion. We are joined in this series by the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad, and St. Andrew’s College, who will be celebrating their commitment to being an Affirming Ministry.
These events focus upon sexual orientation and gender identity, exploring new ways to be in solidarity and celebration with LGBTQIA2S+ communities in the church and beyond.
On Thursday, February 8th, from 7.30-9pm CST, please join us for a webinar featuring LTS’s Rev. Dr. Kyle Schiefelbein-Guerrero and SAC’s Dr. Becca Whitla, among others. Together, we will be investigating liturgical resources that center LGBTQIA2S+ people and communities.
